Looking Back at 71 Years
Posted on 14 November 2018
1947. That was the year that Crawford Boys (Crawford Men’s Shop, until 1989) first opened for business on Yonge street, just north of Dundas. During the intervening 71 years we have seen many changes, not just in the world of fashion but socially and economically as well. We’ve enjoyed the good times and overcome the difficult times.
The biggest and perhaps most challenging evolution was the decision shortly after relocating from down town Toronto to mid town Lawrence Plaza in 1989 to exit the men’s clothing field and focus our efforts on becoming a specialist in boys wear. We have proudly become one of the foremost and experienced retailers of boys’ clothing. We are currently assisting the children of our original customers with their clothing needs!
The second greatest challenge was perhaps our evolution from a strictly brick and mortar retailer to developing an e-commerce, on-line shopping presence. For this I must give credit to my extraordinary staff, one in particular who encouraged this addition to our service then researched and developed our e-commerce platform.
I and our young, dedicated and enthusiastic staff are excited about our future. So much so that although a decision did not have to be made for a while, I recently negotiated another term to our lease at Lawrence Plaza extending it to the end of 2024. That will put Crawford Boys at 77 years old. I am confident that sometime in 2022 I will be writing to announce that Crawford Boys will be here to celebrate our 83rd year of providing great clothing and service to another generation of customers.Paul, owner of Crawford Boys
